Join Us

diversityIf you want to join a fraternity, a convent, or a zombie cult, it’s not so easy. There’s hazing, vows of chastity, or that gruesome blood sucking ritual to contend with. If you want to join Launch Pad, however, it’s a piece o’ cake. It’s free, all are invited, and we have bananas.

In order to join Launch Pad Job Club, attend just one new member orientation meeting at 9:30 am, Fridays just before the main meeting and add your contact information to the new member clipboard. That data is added to our membership directory, and you become an official member of LPJC, the largest job club in Austin. Well done!

But that’s just the minimum joining. That’s the kind of joining where you slink in at 10:15, grab a banana and a cookie, listen to the speaker, and leave after the door prizes are given out, without saying a word to anybody. Remember, 70%-80% of job seekers find employment through networking: talking to people, sharing information, helping each other. We at Launch Pad Job Club are doing all we can to make this process as easy, comfortable, and enjoyable for you as we possibly can without liquor.

Networking is often difficult for introverts. Even extroverts sometimes find that striking up a conversation with people they don’t know is challenging. The secret to making this process a success is this: quit thinking about yourself and start trying to help and support other people. Volunteer to help out at our reception table, help the audio team set up before the meetings begin, creatively arrange those bananas, introduce yourself to new members and help them feel welcome. Resolve to meet at least one new person at every meeting and really connect. Don’t just exchange business cards, learn about him/her /it and see how you can benefit each other as you navigate the illogical, alternative world of unemployment.

Volunteer

At Launch Pad Job Club, we depend heavily on volunteers to be able to run our regular Friday morning meetings. In addition to the individual roles of our board of directors, the following team roles are critical to the success of our regular meetings.  Learn more
